The 2nd EC2U Open Lecture on Sustainable Cities and Communities will be held in Iasi, Romania on 27-29 October 2023.

From the 27th to the 29th of October, Master’s and Ph.D. students from the EC2U universities are invited to take part in the second EC2U Open Lectures in Iasi untitled “Literature Review and State-of-the-Art”. This experience will give the opportunity to participants to learn more about sustainable mobility through workshops, presentations, guided teamwork sessions and social activities.

Day 1  Travel
Day 2 Conference on Geography (plenary sessions and workshops) 

  • 09:00h-11:00h Participation at the International Geographical Conference „Dimitrie Cantemir”, 33rd edition, Opening and Plenary Session.
  • 11:30h-13.30h Open Lecture on Scientific Writing (nr. 1) Nelson Soares, Professor at Mechanical Engineering Dep., University of Coimbra
  • 13:30h-14:30h Lunch Break
  • 14:30h-16:30h Participation in the Paralel Sessions of the Conference. Choose from
    • 1. Sustainable local development, social innovation and territorial resilience
    • 2. Tourism, Heritage, Biodiversity
    • 3. GIS applied in geography
    • 4. Geomorphology and pedology
    • 5. Climatic risks and Water resources management
    • 6. Productive change and inequalities

  • 17:00 – 19:00h Open Lecture on Scientific Writing (nr. 2)

Day 3 Field Trip in the Region of Moldavia and Bucovina (Northeast Romania)

  • 08:00 Departure from Iași
  • 10:00 Short break at the agromarket of Fălticeni town.
  • 11:30 Guided visit of Voroneț Monastery, UNESCO Heritage List „Churches of Moldavia”, known as the „Sistine Chapel of the East”, covered with 16th century outer frescoes using unique Voroneț Blue colour
  • 13:30 Community-based tourism in the villages of Dolheștii Mici or Tătăruși – visit of blacksmith/furrier/walk in the community
  • 14:30 Lunch in open air with local gastronomy and sustainable products
  • 16:00 Visit of Probota Monastery, UNESCO Heritage List „Churches of Moldavia”
  • 19:30 Arrival in Iași.

Alternative for those who will not join the field trip: Social Programme in Iași, Free Walking Tour Saturday at 10:00am in Piața Unirii / Union Square, in front of the Statue of Alexandru Ioan Cuza (3 hours) with the volunteers of the Association Iasi.

Day 4  Extra Social Programme in Iași

  • 10:00 – 14:00 Guided Tour of Contemporary and Historic Iași with geography professor & attested tour guide Mihai BULAI. Themes: Architecture, Urban Planning, Stories, Panoramas, Iconic Buildings and Sites, Cross Border Geopolitics, current Brand promise „Iași – The City of Creators”. Meeting point „Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași”, main building
  • 14:00 – 15:30 Independent Lunch in the Palas Garden
  • 16:00 – 19:00 Free discovery of Iași

Requirements

The event targets students of  Master’s level and Ph.D. level of all study area from EC2U Universities.

 

Selection criteria

The selection of students will be based on the following criteria:

  • Enrolled at an EC2U university at the time of the event
  • At least a B1 level of English
  • Motivation, including interest in sustainable urban development
  • Balanced diversity (gender and study areas) of participants
