Alliances funded in 2020 and which have been awarded SwafS (Science with and for Society) projects, have gathered in Brussels to present the results and outputs of their projects to strengthen the R&I dimension of Alliances. Those three-year projects come to an end this year; therefore, it was a great opportunity to take stock of the last three years and also discuss the future of the R&I dimension within Alliances.
The programme addressed both key outputs of the projects as well as the future of R&I funding for Alliances. 14 Alliances have presented the activities they have conducted and their results in key areas: strengthening Human Capital (support to researchers’ careers, career assessment, skills development, etc…) and joint R&I strategies/policies (joint R&I agenda, common platforms, joint research activities, etc…). Ludovic Thilly (EC2U & RI4C2 Global Coordinator) and Pauline Bordiec (RI4C2 Project Manager) were representing the EC2U Alliance and presented tangible outcomes of the RI4C2 project (which ended in August 2024).
Additionally, representatives of the European Commission took part in the panel discussions with Alliances to address the outcomes of the SwafS projects but also potential future R&I funding opportunities for Alliances. The event was also the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the audience and the European Commission, share good practices and advocate for Alliances’ needs in terms of R&I for the future. The event thus marked another key step in fostering collaborations between Alliances, which will be continued and reinforced with the FOR-EU4All project (gathering all European University Alliances) in November 2024.
