Student Event ‘Shaping the Future through EU Elections’, 15-17 May in Iasi (Romania)

This Student Event is a unique opportunity for students from the 8 Partner Universities of the EC2U Alliance to meet, connect, exchange ideas, debate and participate in various activities. The University of Iasi, in collaboration with EC2U’s Student Council, is offering a programme mixing team building activities, workshops, round tables with experts and collaborative sessions for students.

What will this week focus on?

“Why vote to the EU Elections? Should I be involved?”

The theme of this event is the EU Elections and citizens’ participation. Students will think about citizen engagement, belonging to the European Union and their European identity. They will also learn about the democratic process of the European Union by preparing an EU style Parliamentary debate.

 

What can students expect from this week?

  • Meeting students from 8 different cities and countries and learning about new cultures and traditions
  • Working in collaboration to prepare a parliamentary debate
  • Learning about current European questions from experts from different disciplines

Applications

You are a student from one of the 8 Partner Universities of the EC2U Alliance? You speak English at B2 level? You are interested in the democratic process of the European Union and citizen’s engagement? Get ready to apply!

The Local Coordinators of each university will get in touch with you by the end of March to detail the application process.

 

All expenses are fully covered by the EC2U Alliance, however you will be in charge of booking your journey yourself using the grant. The University of Iasi, that will host the event, will provide accommodation details to selected students.

How to get to Iasi

The EC2U Alliance fully supports sustainable mobility and is encouraging students to choose more sustainable means of transportation.

 

  • Train: If you choose to travel by train from Bucharest to Iași, you need to know that you have several options daily, and the travel duration is around 6 hours and 30 minutes. The cost is approximately 25 Euros/one way. Check the train operator website for timetables and fares: https://www.cfrcalatori.ro/en/
  • Bus: You can travel to Iași by bus directly from Bucharest airport, with two private companies, Massaro (https://www.massaro.ro/) and Teisa (https://www.teisa.ro/). The journey takes approximately 7 hours and costs around 20 Euros/one way.
  • Plane: Iași International Airport is connected with important European airline hubs, such as Barcelona, Rome, Paris, Vienna, Istanbul, Madrid, London, Brussels, Milan, Turin etc. All connections are listed on the website of the airport: https://www.aeroport-iasi.ro/ Two other international airports are located not far from Iași, in Suceava (https://www.aeroportsuceava.ro/ro/) and Bacău (https://www.bacauairport.ro/). The biggest international airport in Romania is located in Bucharest, the capital city. If you fly to Bucharest, you can get to Iași by plane, train, bus or by car.
