The University of Turku (UTU) is an international research university and an active academic community of 25,000 students and staff members from over 100 different countries. The University’s main campus is located in the historical city centre of Turku – close to the unique nature and archipelago of Southwest Finland. As one of the leading universities in Finland, the University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties and 4 independent units.
Founded in 1920 with academic traditions dating back to 1640, today we are an international, and highly regarded academic community with campuses in three cities: Turku, Pori and Rauma. The university was founded on the initiative of citizens, supported by 22,040 donors.
The strength of the University of Turku lies in its multidisciplinary research, which combines expertise from different disciplines to create new knowledge, understanding, and skills to solve the challenges of our time.
Our multidisciplinary themes include new technologies and digitalisation, health, diagnostics and drug development, children, young people and learning, cultural memory and social change as well as biodiversity and sustainability.
We seek open dialogue and new creative collaboration. We act responsibly by generating and sharing new research-based knowledge and contributing to public debate. As an active regional developer and business partner, we offer a wide range of opportunities for collaboration. We have international networks in different disciplines and are involved in several university networks in Europe, China, Africa, and the Arctic.
Learning is a lifelong journey – we encourage personal development throughout career and life.
