This edition of the Forum featured over 40 activities, including expert panels, mobility fairs, collaborative workshops, and networking opportunities—designed to promote European cooperation on climate action and sustainable urban development.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the Alliance’s newest member: Umeå University (Sweden). Ludovic Thilly, EC2U’s Coordinator, welcomed the expansion:
“We are now welcoming our 9th partner: the University of Umeå from Sweden, and for us it is a real delight! […] Thanks to EC2U, the future will be brighter.”The 2025 Forum was the largest in EC2U’s history, reflecting the Alliance’s growing visibility and deepening collaboration.
“This scale of participation is a strong affirmation of our shared commitment to European values and sustainable development,” noted João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni at the University of Coimbra.Throughout the week students from the Alliance’s universities took part in a series of interactive workshops and challenges focused on real-world urban sustainability issues. Working in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams, they explored topics such as:
- Renewable and affordable energy solutions
- How to cope with Eco-anxiety?
- Ideas for sustainable and clean city-transportation
- Make everyone aware of their role in helping the Earth
- The role of arts, media and communication
- Creating green spaces for students to combat sustainability challenges
The EC2U Forum 2025 was made possible through the close cooperation between the Alliance’s universities and their local stakeholders. It reflects EC2U’s ongoing commitment to building a campus that fosters sustainability, innovation, and shared European values.
