Intern Responsibilities/Tasks

An EC2U Classroom Internship in Turku Teacher Training School takes the form of language assistance in grades 1-9, ie. in Finnish basic education. The role of the assistant is to improve the communication skills of the pupils, especially in oral expression, and to deepen their knowledge of a different civilisation and culture. The interns can encourage pupils to express themselves orally, bring a fun dimension to learning, and discuss socio-cultural themes likely to interest children and adolescents.

The intern will be given co-teaching duties, in which they would support the work done by the school’s language teachers, either with the whole class in the presence of the teacher or with small groups of pupils. The intern will also get to know the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teaching settings.

Qualifications & Experience required

The intern should have fluent English skills. Knowledge of German, French or Spanish is an advantage. A proactive attitude towards the tasks is beneficial. Skills to motivate and activate pupils are crucial to support activities with pupils when practicing the oral skills. These skills are seen as an asset—mentoring is also provided to the intern to do this.

Our school is centrally located in a  culturohistorically valuable location that the local residents call “Myllymäki”. As a university teacher training school, multiculturalism, educational export, regional influence, extensive networking, active development, and a close link to research are emphasised.

For more than 120 years our school has operated as a flexible, dynamic school that continually develops and renews its operating culture. Our modern school utilises a wide range of learning environments and ICT (information and communications technology) to meet future development and demands.

As both a UNESCO and Green Flag school, we cherish sustainable development, cultural values and remaining close to nature for which the nationally unique garden of Rauma Campus provides an excellent opportunity.
