The future Pan-European Knowledge Ecosystem (PEKE) will rely on key instruments, including Local Knowledge Ecosystems in the seven EC2U communities. Understanding how these local ecosystems function is crucial for successfully connecting them into a single Pan-European Knowledge Ecosystem.
Moreover, as citizens are key actors among the local ecosystems and as the EC2U Alliance guiding principle is to promote their active engagement in all stages of the R&I process, this WP will also design an action plan for Citizen Science Living Labs.
As part of Work Package 6, an Action plan for Citizen Science will be designed and implemented through the creation of three pilot Living Labs for Citizen Science under the existing EC2U Virtual Institutes (Virtual Institute for Good Health and Well-Being, Virtual Institute for Quality Education, Virtual Institute for Sustainable Cities and Communities).
This innovative approach will empower citizens from the cities of EC2U partner universities to directly participate in the R&I process. The identified key actors in Citizen Science play a crucial role in initiating new projects and sharing their best practices. Measurement instruments will also be utilised to assess citizen engagement levels and make adjustments to activities if needed.
Additionally, the study of Local Knowledge ecosystems paves the way for the framing of a Pan-European Knowledge Ecosystem.
Our Living Labs at EC2U, born from a collective vision for societal progress, are dynamic hubs designed to bridge academia and society. Crafted under the RI4C2 project, these labs belong to the Virtual Institutes Good Health and Well-being, Quality education, Sustainable Cities and Communities and embody our commitment to innovation and positive impact. These Living Labs are vibrant ecosystems fostering collaboration, innovation, and solutions to real-world challenges.
A Living Lab is an open innovation ecosystem in real-life environments using iterative feedback processes throughout a lifecycle approach of an innovation to create sustainable impact. (European Network of Living Labs)
