The first online Workshop on Mental Health and Wellbeing, held on 26 November, brought together experts from all EC2U universities to share resources, initiatives, and best practices, fostering collaboration and raising awareness within the EC2U Alliance members.

The first Online Workshop on Mental Health and Wellbeing in EC2U Alliance

Mental health and well-being are essential components of a thriving academic and personal life. Aware of the growing interest of the university community in this topic, the EC2U Work Package 2 – focused on the promotion of well-being and Inclusiveness – has created a group of mental health and well-being experts, coordinated by the University of Salamanca.

This group of experts developed the first online workshop, which took place on 26 November, 2024 with great success: 147 registered and 64 feedback full responses.

In this workshop, an expert from each university in the Alliance presented the resources that their university offers to their university community, providing an overview of mental health initiatives and fostering a true spirit of collaboration.

The participating experts were:

  • Lena Schmitz – Friedrich Schiller University Jena
  • Diana Chihaia – Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași
  • Verena Enzenhofer – Johannes Kepler University Linz
  • Anu Mäkelä – University of Turku
  • Sara Mora Simón – University of Salamanca
  • Anna Odone/Giacomo Pietro – University of Pavia
  • Maria Joao Martins – University of Coimbra
  • Isabelle Delpérié – University of Poitiers

Discovering the support systems available in each EC2U university

This event allowed the participants to discover the support systems available in each university, to share ideas and good practices to promote mental well-being and to create a stronger and more supportive community across the Alliance.

Through the feedback received, it has been verified that a high percentage of the participants were unaware of the existence of these resources, making their diffusion even more important within the university community, as these contributions from some of the participants attest:

  • “You are not alone. There are always resources available for students and staff.”
  • “That there is a lot of ways to be supported with life struggles all across these universities”
  • “An enriching event with high-quality insights that help us understand the importance given to mental health in our public spaces. Knowledge sharing and inter-university exchanges are essential for improving the services in place”
  • “The event was very interesting and well organised. At a general level, it was great to see that in every EC2U university there are tools and activities for the psycho-physical well being of the community. It was also interesting seeing that some services, which I already know about, at my home institution are still there and are still free (e.g. psychological counselling, which can be difficult to access at an economic level especially for students); also, I had the chance to discover new tools that I was not aware of.”

In addition, 3 more workshops are planned, one per year until 2027. If you have a topic that you would like to explore within this workshop, do not hesitate to write to the experts group at cp.healthy.campus@ml.ec2u.eu.
