Within the framework of the European University Association (EUA), which aims to develop, in line with its vision, the framework and administrative systems for European collaboration in research, higher education, innovation and culture. The Rector of the University of Turku and Chair of UNIFI, Jukka Kola, has been appointed to the advisory board of the Universities and the Future of Europe (UniFE) project.

The project UniFE is composed of experienced university leaders and academic experts. The objective of the project is to determine what European universities expect from future collaboration and what they need in terms of framework conditions, policy structures and multilateral frameworks. The UniFE project will promote exchange and distil common ideas by organising leadership workshops and interviewing academic experts. Topics are also discussed at national rectors’ conferences, such as UNIFI. The results of UniFE will feed into the EUA’s engagement and overall approach to European policy-making with regard to universities.

““Now, perhaps more than ever, it is important to prepare for different possible futures, without losing sight of our sector’s desired future as outlined by EUA in Universities without walls – A vision for 2030. Universities are pioneers and build Europe’s sustainable future effectively and diversely.”, said Jukka Kola.

In order to strategically advise the association in the work of UniFE, the Rector of the University of Turku will be accompanied by several experienced university leaders and academic experts who have been appointed to the project’s advisory board:
