The innovation lab is a concept promoted by the vice rectorate and delegation for research and transfer at the University of Salamanca. It started in 2022, in the cradle of AGRIENVIRONMENT Excellency Unit (Unidad de Producción Agrícola y Medio Ambiente) a strategic program co-financed by the Junta de Castilla y León and ERDF, a initiative that aims to build innovation capacity and improve the impact of CIALE – Institute for Agribiotechnology Research, in the innovation ecosystem, promote technology transfer and value creation.
It focuses on reverting the axis of the technology transfer process within the research institute, abandoning the technology push strategy to focus on a market pull strategy. It starts by identifying a need, pain of customers, society or enterprises, getting back to the drawing board with a interdisciplinary team, building new “task groups” around impact concepts (in this case nature-based solutions for pest bio-control). Late in December 2022 it started its first funded project on the use of natural plant-based compounds in the bio-control of agricultural pest, in collaboration with other 2 national institutions. Currently our efforts are in finding dedicated spaces and resources to expand our operations.
